Messianic Dance

In each of our services we worship not only with music but in Messianic dance as well. Messianic dance uses steps from traditional Israeli dances.  The whole focus is on worship of Adonai.

Why do we do Messianic dance?  The Scriptures are full of references to dancing.  The word dance is not always used but other terms that have that same meaning: rejoice, leap, skip, twirl, etc.  Dancing is a part of worship to Adonai.

In Sh’mot  (Exodus) 15:20 it says, “Miryam the prophet, sister of Aharon, took a tambourine in her hand; and all the women went out after her with tambourines dancing, as Miryam sang to them: ‘Sing to Adonai, for He is exalted! The horse and its rider he threw into the sea!’

Sh’mu’el Bet (2 Samuel) 6:14-15 describes how David led the ark of the covenant into Jerusalem when he ” danced and spun around with abandon before Adonai, wearing a linen ritual vest.  So David and all the house of Isra’el brought up the ark of Adonai with shouting and the sound of the shofar.

“Let them praise His name with dancing, make melody to Him with tambourine and lyre.”               Tehillim (Psalms) 149:3

“Praise Him with tambourines and dancing!”  Tehillim (Psalms) 150:4

“Again I will build you, and you shall be built, O virgin of Israel. You shall again put on your tambourines, and shall go forth in the dances of those who rejoice.”  Yirmiyahu (Jeremiah) 31.3 (4)

“Rejoice Ye in that day, and leap for joy; For, behold, Your reward is great in heaven; for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.”  Luke 6:23

Scriptures tell us that Adonai Himself dances over us. ‘On that day, it will be said to Yerushalayim, “Do not fear, Tziyon! Don’t let your hands droop down. Adonai your God is right there with you, as a mighty savior. He will rejoice over you and be glad, he will be silent in his love, he will shout over you with joy.” ‘  Zephaniah 3:16-17  (Hebrew: rejoice over you with dancing).

Dances are taught on a regular basis at the synagogue.
